Born in Reykjavík, Eyjólfur Eyjólfsson graduated as a flautist under Professor Gunnar Gunnarsson from the Hafnarfjördur School of Music, where he also studied singing with Dr. Thórunn Gudmundsdóttir. Subsequently, he studied on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.
On the oratorio platform, he has sung Messiah with the Royal Symphony Orchestra in Sevilla at the Maestranza Theatre, Messe Solennelle (Berlioz) with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra in King’s College, Cambridge, conducted by Christopher Robinson. He has also performed with numerous choirs and ensembles, including The Flensborg College Choir, Hljómeyki, Schola Cantorum and the vocal ensemble Gríma.
Eyjólfur has given recitals in Iceland, England and France with acclaimed accompanists such as Dalton Baldwin, performing Die Schöne Müllerin in the Festival de Musique Islande-Provence.
His opera début was in the role of Spakur in the folkloric musical Kolrassa (Gudmundsdóttir) in the Tjarnarbíó Theatre in Reykjavík, since when his operatic roles at GSMD have included Wilhelm Meister Mignon, Gonzalve L´Heure espagnole, the Journalist Les Mamelles de Tirésias and Renzo in Jonathan Dove’s UK première of The Little Green Swallow. He has also sungPrologue and Peter Quint The Turn of the Screw at the Music Festival in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Recent engagements: Liberto The Coronation of Poppea and Orfeo for ENO, Ottavio Don Giovanni for ETO, Sellem The Rake’s Progress for Islenska Operan, Sailor Dido and Aeneas for Opera North (also for the Northern Sinfonia c. Nicholas Kramer), a recital with Eugene Asti at the Gnessin Music Hall, Moscow, Mass in C (Dvorák) with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, Christmas Oratorio in Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavík, concerts for the National Trust.
