Born in Cheshire, Kate Flowers studied at RNCM, the London Opera Centre and with Pierre Bernac in Paris.
Kate has performed with most of the major companies in the UK: for WNO: Micaëla Carmen, Valencienne The Merry Widow, Marenka The Bartered Bride, Jenufa (title role); for Opera North: Nedda I Pagliacci, Susanna, Zerlina, Despina, Gretel, Yum-Yum, Jenny Threepenny Opera, Aloës L'Etoile, First Lady The Magic Flute; for Scottish Opera: Polly Beggar's Opera, Gabrielle La Vie Parisienne, Jenny Mahogonny, Anna Intermezzo; for Glyndebourne: Nerina Fedelta Premiata, The Cunning Little Vixen (title role), Despina, DreamDragons; for the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company: Yum-Yum Mikado and Rosalinda Fledermaus; CBTO, Karoline The Two Widows, Alice Falstaff, Dolly Silas Marner, War in Carl Davis' Peace; Camden Festival, Fennimore in Weill's Silbersee. She made her début at La Fenice as Selina in Weber's Oberon. Roles elsewhere include Arms for the Maid and The European Story for the Garden Venture.
Kate Flowers' concert career is equally distinguished and includes work with Rattle, Antal Dorati, Eliot Gardiner, Yan Pascal Tortelier and Hickox, the LSO, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Hallé, the BBC Philharmonic, the Bournemouth SO, the CBSO, the Ulster Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Manchester Camerata
Kate is a regular broadcaster and is a favourite guest-artist on Friday Night is Music Night. She has often appeared on television and is known to many for her video recordings of major G&S roles. She has also recorded for Decca and CBS. Her recordings include a CD of Sullivan's oratorios and The Little Sweep with CBTO.
Recent engagements include her début at the Royal Opera House as Marianne von Leitmetzerin Der Rosenkavalier and the same role for Opera North, Marcellina The Marriage of Figaro, Sorceress Dido and Aeneas, Mrs. Jourdan Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme for Armonico, Marcellina for the BBC/CBTO and for Opera Zuid, Damigella and Nurse The Coronation of Poppea for ENO, Mme Rosa La Gazzetta for Garsington, Opera Seria at Batignano, the title role Iolanthe for CBSO, Lisetta Il Mondo della Luna for Opera East, and Messiah with the National Theatre of Brent.
