Ryan de Ryke studied at the Peabody Conservatory USA with John Shirley-Quirk and the Royal Academy of Music London with Ian Partridge. He is also an alumnus of the Britten-Pears Institute in the UK and the Schubert Institute in Austria. His versatility and unique musical presence have made him increasingly in demand on both sides of the Atlantic.
On the oratorio platform he has sung Messiah, Solomon, the Passions by Bach and Schütz, Weihnachtsoratorium, B-minor Mass, Bach Magnificat, Carmina Burana, the Dvorak Stabat Mater, the Requiems of Fauré, Mozart and Duruflé, and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. He has worked with many early music ensembles including the Orchestra of the 17th Century, the Baltimore Handel Choir, the Bach Sinfonia, the Ciciliana Quartet, the Apollo Chorus of Chicago and the American Opera Theater.
Stage roles include the title roles in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Blow’s Venus and Adonis, Giove La Calisto, Nardo La Finta Giardiniera with the Bay Area Summer Opera in San Francisco, Strephon Iolanthe, Musiklehrer Die Fledermaus, Lancelot Camelot, Archibald The Secret Garden, Jack Into the Woods, Henryk A Little Night Music, Anthony Sweeney Todd, Carl Magnus A Little Night Music, Javert Les Miserables, Pilate Jesus Christ Superstar.
Ryan is in demand as a recitalist and collaborates regularly with Daniel Schlosberg, Eva Mengelkoch, Jerome Tan, Michael Shepard, and Roger Vignoles. He has performed in recital at many of the leading international music festivals including the Aldeburgh Festival and at Aix-en-Provence. He made his Weill Recital Hall début as a finalist with the New York Oratorio Society and later returned to the Zankel Hall as a finalist in the Marilyn Horne masterclass competition. His repertoire includes Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death, Vaughan William’s Five Mystical Songs,Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light, the cantata Ich habe genug, and Dallapiccola’s Rencesvals with Neil Sissons, director of the Dallapiccola Ensemble in London.
Current season/future plans: Mr. William Elliot Persuasion for the Chamber Opera Chicago, Messiah for the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, concerts with the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, recitals in Baltimore.
