David Stout baritone

A former Head Chorister of Westminster Abbey, David studied Zoology at Durham University, sang with the choir of St. John's College, Cambridge and studied on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he was recipient of the John Hosier Scholarship, the Harold Rosenthal Award and the Principal's Prize 2006. He continues to study with Rudolf Piernay.

His extensive oratorio repertoire includes Bach St. John and St. Matthew Passion (both Salisbury Cathedral), B Minor Mass and Haydn Nelson Mass (Orchestra of St. John's), Messiah (Wells Cathedral), Mozart Requiem ( Sir Roger Norrington and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment ), Verdi Requiem and A Child of Our Time (both King's College, Cambridge), Judas Maccabaeus , The Creation, Elijah , Rossini Stabat Mater, Carmina Burana (Snape Maltings), A Sea Symphony (Bach Choir), The Dream of Gerontius , Belshazzar's Feast and Iakov in Fleischmann's Rothschild's Violin.

His operatic roles include: for GSMD, the title roles Falstaff and Gianni Schicchi, Don Cassandro La Finta Semplice , Ulisse Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria , Opera Director Les Mamelles de Tirésias ; for British Youth Opera, Guglielmo Così fan tutte (Peacock Theatre) and Forester The Cunning Little Vixen (QEH); elsewhere, the title role of Eugene Onegin , Count Almaviva Le Nozze di Figaro , Escamillo Carmen , Ankerström Masked Ball , Captain Corcoran HMS Pinafore , Giuseppe The Gondoliers , Giorgio Germont La Traviata , Prince Yeletsky Queen of Spades , Scarpia Tosca , Belcore The Elixir of Love , Hardy in Greenbaum's Nelson .

David's recital work includes Schwanengesang at the Oxford Lieder Festival with Sholto Kynoch and Des Knaben Wunderhorn with Annabel Thwaite as well as Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Julian Philips' Swift Partitions and Masque for Caliban with the Orchestra of the Swan.

Recent engagements: Marullo Rigoletto Opera Holland Park, Aeneas Dido and Aeneas , Argippo Erismena and Pluto Orfeo for ETO, Le Dancaïre Carmen for WNO, Papageno The Magic Flute for Grange Park, Mick Playing Away for the Bregenzer Festspiele.

Current season/future plans include: Marcello La Bohème for Mid-Wales Opera, Speaker for WNO, Angelotti Tosca for the Bregenzer Festpiele, Don Juan The House of the Dead for the Teatro Massimo, Palermo, Schaunard La Bohème for Welsh National Opera and English National Opera; Verdi Requiem for Yateley and A Sea Symphony in Gloucester Cathedral; a new CD recording of The Creation with New College Choir and the Oxford Philomusica c. Edward Higginbottom.
