Dominic Wheeler conductor

Born in Dorset, Dominic Wheeler studied at Clare College, Cambridge, the RCM and the Liszt-Akademie in Budapest. He was also Audi Conducting Scholar and, later, guest conductor at Dartington International Summer School.

He has conducted: for ENO, The Barber of Seville , Siegfried , Rhinegold, War and Peace and The Capture of Troy , The Turk in Italy ; for Opera North, L'Elisir d'Amore , Don Giovanni ; for Scottish Opera, Don Giovanni and Alceste (also at the Opéra de Nice); for Opera New Zealand, Manon ; Tosca, Werther, La Bohème, Madam Butterfly for Holland Park; I Puritani , Giovanna d'Arco, Ermione, Lucrezia Borgia for Chelsea Opera Group; for ETO, The Pearl Fishers , The Marriage of Figaro , Fidelio and Macbeth ; for CBTO, Faust ; Nabucco, Hunyadi Laszlo for Dorset Opera; A Night at the Chinese Opera (Judith Weir) for RAM; Gentle Giant for ROH at the Linbury and on tour; for ENO Contemporary Studio, the première of The Maids (John Lunn) at The Lyric Hammersmith; for Trinity College of Music, La Voix Humaine ; for Batignano, Don Giovanni , Giganti della Montagna (Federico Amendola - world première), Salome (Stradella), the Italian premières of Peri's Euridice (arr. Stephen Oliver) and Candide ; at Her Majesty's Theatre, Watch your Step (Irving Berlin); Die Zauberflöte for Longborough; The Marriage of Figaro for BYO; L'Enfant et Les Sortilèges , Das Wundertheater (Henze) and La Princesse (Saint-Saens for the Royal Academy Opera; L'Augelino belverde (Jonathan Dove) for GSMD.

His concert engagements include concerts with the London Mozart Players in England and Germany, a gala concert at the Orquestra do Algarve, a programme with the BBC Singers, Kenwood with CLS, a children's programme with the Northern Sinfonia, several programmes with the BBC Singers including one of Russian music and one of compositions by Judith Weir, the opening concert in the Norwich Festival with the BBC Concert Orchestra, Messiah and the Mozart C Minor Mass with the English Northern Philharmonia and Leeds Philharmonic chorus, the Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle at Aldeburgh, and orchestral concerts with Trinity College of Music London and Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra.

Recent engagements: concerts with the City of London Sinfonia, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Guernsey SO, Messiah with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Paradise Moscow for RAM, The Sofa and The Departure (Elizabeth Maconchy) for Independent Opera and, Cendrillon for Chelsea Opera Group.

Current season/future plans include: Pelléas et Mélisande for Independent Opera.
